Household Hazardous Waste Day – Now taking tires, propane tanks, non-freon appliances for FREE

Lake County has added propane tanks, tires and all non-freon appliances to the list of items it will accept for FREE at the Household Hazardous Waste Round-Up on May 17th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Lake County landfill.  Many hard to dispose of items are accepted for free on this day including household batteries, compact fluorescent lightbulbs and tubes, mercury thermometers and thermostats, paints, stains, automotive supplies and much more.  This day is a team effort, brought to you by the Lake County, the Cloud City Conservation Center, the City of Leadville Fire Department and many volunteers.  All items will be sorted by hazardous material trained landfill and fire department staff and picked up by a third party disposal group, Clean Harbors.  In most cases items will be broken down and recycled. In some cases they are incinerated.  For complete information on what you can and cannot bring please check the website at or call the Conservation Center at (719) 465-6164.
