The CARE program is an energy efficiency home-improvement program available in Lake County to income-qualified homeowners and tenants. In 2016, Cloud City Conservation helped improve 26 homes with an average annual savings on utility bills of $386!
Improvements may include a new Energy-Star refrigerator, LED lights, insulation, and air sealing, and more!
Thanks to our friends at Energy Outreach Colorado
and XCEL Energy for making this program possible.

Join us from 5-7pm on April 22nd for the annual Party for the Planet, a celebration of Leadville and Lake County’s efforts to be inspiring stewards of our environment. The Award Ceremony and Party will take place at Harperrose Studios, 601 Harrison Ave. The party will include live music (Groovespeak) and food. It is free for members, $5 for non-members; don’t worry, you can become a member at the door.
Don’t forget to shop for us! (But only for things you need, that are made well and will add value to your life.) The following businesses have pledged 15-20% of their Friday proceeds to the local environmental programs, so get out and support these local businesses on Earth Day: Cookies with Altitude, City On a Hill, Melanzana, Harperrose Studios, High Mountain Pies, Community Threads, Cycles of Life, and Leadville Outdoors.
Check out the EPA’s national highlight of our two local programs, the Green Schools Compost Program and the Environmental Justice program focusing on low-income homes.
Yes, some great things are happening in Leadville and we could not do this work without the help of our local supporters and partners. The tide is indeed changing here in Leadville. We are becoming a community more responsible to the natural world and more capable of the beautiful mountain life we’ve been looking for. Yay us.
